... while I understood the material well enough to ace every single test, and participate in class when called upon, she failed me for not doing ALL my homework. I think I did about 1/3 of it, and tests were supposed to be the majority of the grade. So when I found that I could understand the material nearly immediately I stopped doing the majority of the homework. She felt I wasn't giving her the "respect" that she deserved by doing my homework, and conforming to her standards. I tried to contest the grade and she claimed that she had caught me cheating on my tests but refused to test me individually. My parents wouldn't believe me, and without their support the school wouldn't do anything. So I got dropped out of the Honors math track and got stuck in the remedial class for the next year.
All of my other math teachers understood when I took tests and ignored the homework. As long as my test scores were good they didn't bother me, they even let me draw in class instead of doing work, as long as I would help my classmates understand the material, and did well on tests. It was just that one $@#*% that ended up messing up my transcripts. |
