Y'know I've read Gleick's Chaos but not that other. I would suggest for an interesting read about a culture that definitly did not subscribe to the fast pace of the world around it (until that world forced it's ways upon them), read Seven Years in Tibet by Heinrich Harrer (yes this is the book that the movie was based on). Interesting look at a slow paced culture seen through the eyes of a westerner (the movie gives hints of this but the book is much better).
