There was this lady who grew tomatoes. She would pick them and set them in neat rows on her shelves according to ripeness. She would eat the ones that were starting to go bad first so she wouldn't have to throw them away. By the time she was done with those, the ones down the line were starting to go bad, so she would eat them. She died never having eaten a good tomato. Not quite the same, but similar...
