I think... before that there were no childrens hospice. So children died at home or died in hospital. The hospice is a wonderful place. People there are really nice and everyone treats the kids with dignity, respect, kindness, etc. They can die there with dignity and peace. And for some it is very slow their illness takes years. So they go there for respite and know they aren't alone. There are other kids and other families. For my daughter one fear of hers was she knew adults that died but no kids. She was afraid she'd have nobody in heaven to play with. She loved canuck place and thought it was beautiful. Also gave her peace to know she wasn't alone and people would treat her as much like a regular kid as they could up until right near the end.

Canuck place is a wonderful old building. Modeled after an old scottish castle. I don't know if you took the vr tour but it's very nice. Anyways when I do my xmass shopping I plan on buying something that my daughter would of liked and donating it in her memory... as it does a wonderful service for so many families and their children.
