the original trilogy, in spite of its exaltation as the end-all, be-all of geek film, was not glorious filmmaking. we loved it for the story, the lasers, and leia in a brass bikini. we did not love it because it had clever dialogue (although it has some memorable lines), or because the acting was incredible (although harrison ford has obviously had some lessons since then).
the new films have: answers to all our questions about the background story, plus some intriguing story bits of their own, lots and lots more lasers, and padme with her shirt clawed off. what's not to like?
