i thought they did a good job expressing anakin's restlessness and setting up his relationship with the emperor... and yoda never said that fighting wasn't useful, or that he was a pacifist. his comments to luke in the original trilogy were (iirc) meant to teach discipline and diplomacy, and that the force should be used for defense, not as a weapon. the love story with padme was pretty cheezy. but the love story with han and leia was cheezy, too... no worse, no better.
