I use PPP through SSH, The howto was on my SUSE linux disk, but it is on the net: click it is a little outdated, you might have to add some flags to force the SSH version. I sucessfully set it up between mine and by brother's Cable modem connected accounts. was able to ping and use SMB through through the link.
