None of the Christian men at my church will date because they are either a) convinced that if they speak to a girl they are comitting sin and are terrified to even glance in her direction, or b) have this ideal of the perfect Christian woman that it just unattainable. The Proverbs 31 woman is an ideal, not reality! Combine that with alot of the girls in my class act like men are evil and tell us not to talk to them. Our class actually has women sitting on one side of the room and men on the other!! Those of us who are new christians and therefore have a "past" are not good enough for the guys who have been believers since they were children. Either we are not virgins, or we are not strong in our faith, or we are not quiet in spirit (which I have finally determined means we are outspoken and assertive though I keep hearing that is not what that means) or some other bull like that.
But we are not to date non-christian men either. Even if we wanted to we can't because they will not go out with us when we tell them we are celibate til married.
BTW, your recollection is not correct. I did have a SO back then, but I have since given the loser the boot. I did, however, replace him with a much more user friendly model that I find an absolute joy to be with. So you had a few weeks there to make your move, but alas....
Decides, I don't want to face the wrath that would accompany me taking a damnyankee home to meet my parents :P |
