What's the problem with creating a folder on each laptop and giving "everyone" read-only access to it? Any individual files the users then wish to share with their colleagues can go into this folder. Better yet, create a domain and have each user log onto it and have a centralised file distriblution server. a PDC/Fileserver doesnt have to be a Proliant. NT Server will run on a laptop. If you are concerned with licencing then you could set up a linux PDC.
