What kind of database admin... by borg3892002-11-04 06:52:57
  A simple answer... by dexter1812002-11-04 06:56:59
That's about the same for any MS certification. by Avium 2002-11-04 07:06:39
I'm not saying all MCSE's are idiots but the certification system doesn't teach you anything. I know several MCSE's that don't understand simple TCP/IP networking.

Case in point : A customer of ours has a VPN connection with their head office in Atlanta (we're in Toronto). When the Toronto office moved we had to temporarily disconnect them from the VPN. Since we didn't have the permissions (or the admin password) to change the VPN hardware settings (It was a Cisco 3000 series VPN setup.)

In order to configure the VPN box, we had a machine with a modem and PCAnywhere hooked to the VPN to which the Atlanta guys connected. We watched as the guy filled in all of the IP info we were given by the ISP except for the gateway. It took us 5 (yes 5) hours to convice an MCSE that the default gateway had to be there or it wouldn't work.
