I'd like to know bout it. We have a tourist issue here that is bizzare as well, but probably not quite on that scale. Uhluru (Ayres rock) was handed back to traditional owners a few years back since it has religious signifigance to them. They also get to manage the tourism to the area but do not have the right to stop people from climbing it (something they frown upon). The provided link even expresses this veuiw but goes on to say that they climbed it anyway because everyone else was. People :(
