I hope this works here...

Most men (yes, I'm generalizing here, I realize that, bear with me...) have toolboxes with a variety of screwdrivers: phillips head, slotted, short, long, hex, etc because there are so many varieties of hardware used to hold things together...the screwdriver you already have never seems to be quite right for the job at hand, so you end up getting a different one.

Most women have many different pairs of shoes for the same reason. The black dress shoes I wear to work are not quite right for wearing out on a date when I'm trying to impress and wearing that little red dress, so I have a different pair of black shoes, which are not quite right to wear to a formal party, with the floor length gown, requiring a different pair of black shoes. Then there are the casual shoes...the athletic shoes I wear to the gym aren't right for wearing with some styles of pants. I could go on and on. Women have so many different styles of shoes because our clothing fashions have so much more variety then men's.... My husband's wardrobe consists of t-shirts and jeans, khaki or navy slacks and polo-style shirts, dress shirts and black slacks. He has hiking boots and sneakers to wear for casual, one pair of black dress shoes and one pair of brown loafers.
