Most of the municipalities surrounding me have adopted ordinances that require retailers to decline sales of the following to people under the age of 18:
- Spray paint (any time... I live in a gang-infested area)
- Eggs (Halloween only)
- Toilet paper (Halloween only)
- Shaving cream (Halloween only)
...but that doesn't stop the kids from trying. Last Halloween I was waiting in line at the supermarket checkout, and three 14-year-old girls in front of me each had several cartons of eggs and a dozen rolls of toilet paper. When the cashier informed them that she couldn't sell the stuff to 'em due to the ordinance, they all whined, "But my mother's going to kill me! She sent me here!"
Cashier's reply... "Just how dumb do you think I am? Have you three boneheads considered that there have been a hundred little brats like you try the same thing today? I'm sure your mother will understand completely... especially when she doesn't have to pick up her little precious from the police department for vandalism." |
