Many/most people (of whom I've heard, anyway) who see the movies aren't familiar in the remotest fashion w/ either the name JRR Tolkien or the LotR trilogy. Some people who were commenting on the last one said things along the lines of: "Seems like a cliffhanger - I hope there's more"; "Bah, it's just a marketing scheme for a whole series of movies"; "What's up with the redundancy of the title?"; (finding out there's a sequel) "Cool! It must be hard to follow up on the first one"; etc.
Others have responded "JRR who?" and other indications of being uninformed.
All this from friends of friends. All my personal friends are very literary-enhanced, so I wouldn't expect such from them. :-) |
