It's still a distraction, before I knew better (but still knew better enough to not use it while driving) I tried a headset adapter, while that allowed me to have both hands on the wheel, it's still a real distraction, as I found out first hand (realized it before anything happened) with the other person in the car it's like no distraction at all (at least for me, I can't generalize for everyone)
