possess a basic awareness of their environment. What humans tend to deem as perception is a very complex network of interactions between us and that which we perceive. The level of awareness of the air molecules is very low, consisting of the transfer of energy back and forth from the table - but, it is still there. Our awareness is much more complex, changing our environment much more, although still an (usually) insignificant amount. The effects of our awareness can be seen through temperature/momentum changes around us.
