others (air molecules, photons, etc.) did perceive it, so I haven't totally lost. ;) #2 is to clarify an ambiguous statement - #1 is more general. One of the fundamental concepts in quantum mechanics is that all exist as participators within the universe. This has some consequences, one of which is that there can be no closed systems within the universe. If there are no closed systems, then all must interact and our interaction will change what we observe, however minutely. So, we can have a highly coherent reality - what we see (and some assume for absolute) - but never an absolute reality. So, your analogy fails as it assumes that we (who wish to observe) are closed systems.
