A Reasonable Assertion (longish) by NOLAWitch2006-11-19 12:55:59

Lies, damn lies, statistics. by gblues 2002-10-18 16:46:40
Let's do a play-by-play, shall we?

Assertion #1:

The quality of the genes do not determine the quality of the person. They may decide the quality of the person's body, but that does not devalue the person.
No mention of God or religion there.

Assertion #2:

Where do you draw the line? It's easy to throw away a child who is unlikely to survive the birthing process, but what if the baby doesn't have the right hair color? Or has the genes for color blindness, premature baldness, or alcoholism?
Still no religion-based arguments, and we're still at zero for references to God.

Assertion #3:

Who are you to decide to end a child's life? I'm not talking about health (as in, choose between the child and the mother), but you are not in the position to know how a child's life will pan out. My wife's cousin has Asperger's Syndrome, which makes for some interesting stories sometimes. But he's a very intelligent young man and he is a blessing to his parents.
Well, we have a reference to a "blessing" which does not have religious connotations in this context. Still at zero for God references. Maybe the last paragraph...

Assertion #4:

To get a bit more personal, my dad was exposed to enough agent orange to make him sterile. I was either an accident or a miracle, depending on how much faith you have. ;) God blessed me by making me male, because AO severely hoses the 'X' chromasome--being XY means my 'X' chromosome came from my quite healthy mother.
Wow, an actual reference to God! But wait, assertion #4 hasn't actually been made yet. The above information was a setup for my point, which was...
If my parents had listened to the doctors who thought along the same lines you do, you would not be reading this message because I would not exist.
Oh, so God doesn't relate to my point? Yeah, I feel God blessed me--others may say I lucked out by being male, but I don't believe in luck. In other words, the religion references are to myself, not my argument. My point stands--if my parents had heeded the doctors who warned that I would be a mess of birth defects and health problems, I would've been aborted.

So no, thank YOU for playing. Bye Bye. See you later.</Shrek>
