When language is translated often something is lost. People that are natively bilingual though do have a slight advantage in translation trying to convey the feel for what is said. Some phrases can't be properly translated in to other languages(unless its a like language that contains a similar meaning word).

Also yes this cartoon is canadian but Illiad I'm guessing is at least bi lingual and maybe multi lingual.

I see nothing wrong with people posting posts of other languages. But if they want all to see it perhaps stating it's in german or whatever language so that people can translate if they want or look up a translation.

I tried to translate it myself. But I'm aware there are more than one varient of german just like there is of english and french. So some words I could spot from exposure to friends that were german when younger as well as dutch. However I knew I couldn't fully translate it so I tried an engine for translation. However they can't translate some words and some phrases are also hard to translate. So it substituted lap, nut, and mother in spots making it sound strange. I knew it wasn't perfect but could sort of understand chunks of it.(some words though didn't translate at all)

Also one last note just because someone is german or whatever doesn't mean they can speak it or read it. They might do one but not both depending on where they grew up. My ex husband speaks some lay cantones that is regional and can't read it at all. I'm celtic (scottish, irish, and english) and like my exhusband first generation canadian but I don't know any celtic words at all from any of the celtic languages. My grandfather spoke them and my dad knew a little regional dialect/slang(for one of the UK english regional varients... sounded like pig latin actually). Because I am canadian born and chose to learn a second language(if my relatives had taught me a native/celtic language I'd of been exempt from needing to learn a second) I took french. However french varies as well... and just because a person is born canadian doesn't mean they can speak french. My sister can't, neither can my mom. My brother opted for taking german and japanese. I also took two varients of french. Here though typically you are required one year of a second language to graduate(at least that was the case when I was in school... most commonly it was french but sometimes other courses were offered) however to go to university you need 4 yrs education of another language.(unless you were born bilingual or multi lingual and proficient in reading/writing/speaking then they exempt you both from the highschool language thing and uni... I was told this by a school admin back in school years ago)
