Make a batter with two eggs and 2.5 deciliters(1/2 pint approx) of milk, season with salt and pepper. Once it has the consistancy of solid custard, put it to chill.
Finely mince 500 grams (1 pound approx) of cooked lamb (beef if you prefer). Slice 3 large onions and fryuntil brown in some olive oil. Cut 3 or 4 unpeeled aubergines into large slices and fry.
Pour a bit more oil into a cake tin (oblong) and cover the bottom with slices of aubergines, then cover then with minced meat, and the meat with onions. Repeat until you run out of ingredients. Add 1 deciliter (a glass?) of meat stock and the same of tomato sauce* and then pour the batter over.
Cook in a moderate oven (160-170C°) for about an hour.

To make the tomato sauce:
Peel 2-3 tomatoes and chop into bits.
Put on a low heat in a frying pan with avery small quantity of oil and some basil and a pinch of salt. Cook until it turns into a puree.
