Macintosh? by Linfalgamo2002-10-18 11:09:53
How much do you want to spend, and what do you by Arcanum 2002-10-18 12:07:54
what to use it for? Also, how likely are you to want to swap out components in the future?

If you're looking at a sub-$1500 or so price range, you're probably looking at having to get a PC. Macs have no low-end price range.

If you want the widest possible variety of software to work on your system, a PC is probably your best bet. Also, a PC is probably preferable if you plan on doing much gaming, since OSX isn't as supported as Windows. If you're doing mostly graphics/content creation stuff, Mac is your best bet. If you're mostly doing word processing, spreadsheets, and the like, it probably doesn't matter.

Lastly, hardware-wise, Macs are not as tweakable and upgradable as PCs. You simply can't do things like swap out the CPU for a better one, or swap out the motherboard for one that supports dual CPUs or more RAM or both.
