As I said in a post earlier today, even my fax machine runs MacOS, but the other posters in this thread are right too that it depends what you intend to with it. They're right that there aren't as many games for Mac. If you want to get some work done -- especially anything musical or graphical, but even just good ol' Office and Filemaker -- play a few games, not have many technical problems, surf in style, Mac OS might be a good choice.
OS X is gorgeous and rock solid stable, best MacOS ever, but you can easily install Linux on one too. Mandrake, Yellow Dog, and SuSE are all good distributions for a powerpc computer. I prefer Yellow Dog.
I also have a Windoze 2000 Server computer and an AMD processor Linux computer. And I know how to use them. Well, even. But I still prefer my Mac.
Do avoid those iMacs though; no PCI slots on those, not very expandable. Oh, and your old monitor will work on a new Mac. You don't even have to buy an adapter for that anymore.
