Macintosh? by Linfalgamo2002-10-18 11:09:53
  I use both... by mcnutcase 2002-10-18 11:48:41
assuming that by PC you mean one running Windows, Macs are easier to use and generally faster (that is, if you get a good G4...). My home box is Linux, and I like it a lot, but it's not for everybody. My departmental boxen are mostly iWhacks, and despite the sickly colours, they're good boxen. Never found myself needing anything I didn't have (although the tiny amount of dev work we do is on a Unix server). The rest of the Uni uses Windows boxen, and they're a headache. Unreliable, temperamental, and generally non-fun. That said, it depends on your work what's good for you. Light WP duty - Windows is likely to be best suited, since when you get bored doing that low-interest stuff you can load up a game and kill some stuff. Graphics-intensive stuff - Mac's probably your best bet - it's what the pros use, and having tried them for that myself, once you've got the UI figured they're very good. Development - Linux box, since you can start development in plenty of languages from a base system. Overall, go with what you reckon will be best. HTH.
