Naruki's knowledge of geodesy have to do with his being "worth the time"?

my question is this: what was the fyos-ing point of the second question? other than to try to make yourself feel superior by pulling out parlor tricks derived from esoteric mathematics. i mean, i'm as big a fan of esoteric mathematics as the next geek, and i'm happy to say that in framing my answer to question 2, i specified euclidean space as one of my assumptions, but...
that leads me back to my question. what was the point? i mean, if you're looking for ground rules, then why bother with the math quiz?
