are verbal contests, rather than formal debates. I think NOLAWitch did well below in laying out ground rules in her post for those who would respond to her. Like you, I prefer a more formalized system to what we often have, conducted civilly, but I'm not sure it would be my place to insist upon it in threads that are not my own. I have remarked to people that I thought they were going too far, and have occasionally found that they have responded with courtesy. If all else fails, however, it is best simply to ignore those with whom you cannot conduct the type of discussion you wish to have.
