I was attempting (poorly it seems) to de-trivialize soccer moms from the original post. There are all types of addicts, presumably some before the invention of alcohol. My example was simple and current. I think it is folly to assume that we can mandate a better humanity by deciding that 'addicts can't make good parents'. My point is: the offspring of addicts (insert another group here if it suits you) may benefit society, even if they are considered disadvantaged by some. It seemed an overly simple point to make, really.
