Es war gut, daß ich Deutsch studiert habe.

In german, "that" is mandatory (well, there _are_ ways to avoid it but not without completely changing the sentence)
The object order is quite fine.
One other thing is "study". Most people would think you had studied it at university. (well, perhaps that's what you wanted to say :-) I would have substituted "studiert" with "gelernt". But that depends on which part of the german-speaking-countries one comes from. (I think austrians would use it that way)

A german person probably would have shortened that to:
"Gut, daß ich Deutsch gelernt habe."
