often is, used with the "proper" interpretation to "prove" literally anything. More than once I have used logic and analysis to make a VERY good case for Satanism, just to prove to a skeptic that it can be done. Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be, or having been done, that it is necessarily correct.
Your analysis appears subjective to me, and designed to advance your argument rather than be objective. Nonetheless, that's not what I was trying to bring across. I was trying to say that tolerance, even acceptance (which is different) needs to be an important part of a Christian's dealings in the secular world.
I stand by and amplify my earlier statements, which you quoted, by saying that years of patient, exhaustive reading and study have convinced me that homosexuality is a sin. So are usury, public drunkeness (Not drinking, but being drunk), and vandalization (to pick some relatively non-inflammatory ones). None are any worse than the others.
The problem with being considered a Christian comes not with doing these sins (Christ forgives all) but with advocating them as a valid lifestyle. I'm sorry, but I could not consider anyone who advocates what is sinful as a lifestyle to be a Christian. No offense is intended.
I also would like to comment on some of what other people have said here. Please do not consider this aimed at you, Thalas_shava, but some have expressed rather intolerant views of Christianity, here and elsewhere. Get a life! Don't spend your time opposing other peoples views, go practice your own!
If someone practices discrimination (other than words, you need to be strong enough to accept bigots who just use words) against you, come to me, I'll help as much as the situation warrants, even if it means taking a 2x4 to the idiot!
No joke. I despise people who use their beliefs as weapons against others. DON'T come to me if you were trying to go into their church and they won't let you in. They (and I) have that right. But if they refuse you admittance to their apartment complex, or theater, or won't let you work there, we need to straighten them out.
Just remember that my attitude goes both ways. Don't you use YOUR beliefs as weapons in that way, or the next scathing post, the next subpoena, the next protest, may be for YOU. |
