homosexual people who wish to marry and have "normal" families are not pushing a religious issue. for them, at least, it's totally a civil matter. they couldn't care less what anyone's church says about them. they just want the social and civil rights and privileges that come with designating your life partner your "spouse" in a socially recognized way.
if your church thinks it's wrong, then it's up to you at home to teach that. evolution vs. creation is a similar subject that bears on both the scientific and religious worlds. but for the purposes of educating children, you can't omit the theory of evolution because one relgion disagrees with it. likewise, you can't omit mentioning homosexual families in social education. they are real, they are families, they are worthy of mention.
as to separation of church and state, there is absolutely no reason that a public school official or teacher should be praying publically in school, christian, wiccan, jew, muslim, buddhist, hindi, jain, ba'hai, or otherwise. teachers praying privately is fine. allowing kids to pray privately is fine. but any time praying is made part of the "official" school day it's a violation of the authority of the state, because it shows state favoritism for the religion in question. |
