that they have urges or thoughts themselves which they don't wish to admit to for cultural or other reasons... so to hide they make an a$$ of themselves in bigoted behaviour. At least that was the observance of my exhusband. He had urges and things but he acted and still acts very homophobic in regard to gay males(he thinks gay women are great in that umm non fyos safe way that some focus on.. and otherwise disintrested in the topic). I made sure my kids didn't carry on the judgmental biggoted ideas. I taught them to each their own. And they did comment on their dads reaction/comments. My daughter did and realized it's just the way he is, that he was uncomfortable on certain subjects, etc. My brother is very homophobic for other reasons.(he's just a pompus a$$, etc in general and not just on homosexuality) So for some obviously their reasons are diffrent but a few probably are like my exhusband.(whose issues might also stem as well partially from the fact his family treated him as a girl til he was about 2 I think... he's embarassed about it and stuff. So gives my son a hard time on the odd thing which I consider gender neutral or I'm just not uptight about.<shrug>)
