The term "god fearing" is derived from a Hebrew expression "Yere-Elohim". "Yare" may be translated as "fearing", but the more accurate translation in this context (IMHO) is "in awe of".

So, can you live with the expression "God-awed"?

I also heard a more sophisticated rationalization of this. Something along the lines of: "I am not afraid that I would be punished if I sin. Rather, I have come to know God, and I am afraid of losing the presence of God in my life."
