It's more like an optical floppy. Remember a lot of the early CD-ROM drives that required putting the disc into a caddy, and then loading the caddy into the drive? Yeah, like that.

It's mounted in a cartridge. From what I've seen, you can get higher capacities (9.4GB vs. 4.7GB for all other types), but it's only good in a DVD-RAM drive that can take the cartridge.

I've seen drives that do DVD-RAM for sale, so it's not dead yet...
