Stupid pollsters. by flamebait 2002-10-14 08:08:45
"Should Canada become the 51st American state?"

Just what are they asking? Is it "Should we annex Canada"? Is it "Should we let Canada join us"? Is it "Should all of Canada be a single state, rather than each province and territory being a state in its own right"?

I hate pollsters who ask ambiguous questions.

"Leger interviewed 1,000 Americans between Sept. 19 and Sept. 29 for the poll provided to The Canadian Press. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20."

Just how does a poll of just 1000 Americans give a margin of error of only +-3.1%? And 19 times out of twenty? That would be 95%, giving a margin of error of +-5% wouldn't it? Where do they come up with these numbers?
