But, at least part of that person has to be offended at being mislead. Yes, another leader will rise and take his place and preach the same message--if it hasn't happened already--but, there's always that question of "why couldn't they have just told us the truth?"

I don't know--maybe I'm hoping for too much, or putting too much of myself in this argument but from my perspective, if I was fighting for a cause, and willing (willing? hell....looking forward to dying for it) I'd at least want to make sure that the leadership was with me. I think that by misleading the followers like that, they are opening themselves up to the followers discovering that they are all just lowly, expendable, worthless pawns. All it takes is for just a few to get that point--so long as they can talk they can try to clue in the others.
