Web site posts statement from Bin Laden? by gatorbytes 2002-10-14 07:08:54
CNN.com is reporting that a website has posted a message purportedly from Osama bin Laden praising the recent attacks on US troops in Kuwait and the bombing of that French oil tanker. Here's my take...I want to see what you all think.

I'm beginning to think that the man is dead. Quite dead. Ohh so very dead. Why? Because my grandmother-in-law could post a message on a website if she wanted to. Because the most recent messages from "the terrorists" (collective, I know but I'm going for speed here before this thought leaves me) have been audio recordings and the only one that mentions anything with any date referrences have been from the 2nd in command. How hard would it have been for the man to say "ohh, by the way, the date is October blah-de-blah, 2002?? Yes, I'm still alive."

Now--obviously, if he's dead, this is an effort to get us to think that he's still alive, but it's also a rallying tool for the "troops" that are still out there wondering what their "leaders" want them to do. Am I the only one who sees a possible backlash in all of this?? Essentially, the leadership of Al-Quaeda is trying to pull the wool over the eyes of its own membership. When the "troops" learn the truth--that their fearless "leader" is dead as a doornail, that could crush them psychologically and whatever trust they had in the organization's leadership would be going, going, gone.

Thoughts??
