Why Bali? Because by DragonLady 2002-10-14 07:01:31
1 - they are terrorists, and the objective of terrorists is to create terror in the general populace, not just to bring down governments by killing its heads.
2 - Bali, at this time of the year, is full of western tourists. (Actually, Bali is nearly always full of western tourists.) Thus they strike two blows, one against westerners in general, and one against the economic status of Indonesia. No tourists in Bali means practically no income for the island. The Balinese tend not to be muslim - the muslim party in the Indonesian govt would like Bali to fail economically .. because theyre not muslim ...
3 - Because western countries are now advising their nationals to leave Indonesia, the group thought to be responsible (they have not yet acknowledged that) Jemaah Islamiyah will achieve their objective of getting westerners out of Indonesia, and encouraging the creation of an Islamic religious government in Indonesia - by creating a religious war.

In the recent news programme - they have found 2 of the Kingsley guys - 5 out of 20 are still missing. From the eastern states, several members of at least 2 rugby union teams are still missing. There are football team members missing from teams from Sydney and the Gold Coast.
Quantas stopped taking bookings for future Bali holidays, although they have provided cheap fares for families wanting to travel there to find members, and they are providing extra flights to help people leave.
