The graphical version, even if it's not displaying on your screen, still has to compute the bits for the image. You get an increase in work completed by minimizing it, and you get another increase by going command line =) My Athlon 1800+XP (1.56GHz) does a workunit about 4.5hrs on the regular seti client. It takes about 2 hours with the command line version :)
