  apt-get update && apt-get upgrade by videlina 2002-10-14 00:33:38
If you've got your /etc/apt/sources.list with the proper servers in it (although it can be edited from dselect too, I think).

'apt-get update' will update the package list so your system knows what latest versions are out there (including security updates, if you have specified them in your sources.list), and 'apt-get upgrade' will actually update your packages to the latest versions for your distribution.
