i was working on a comp that wouldnt load the bios
it was so nasty, the hard drive was a 2.5 gig (thats actually big for this school district) and so this thing was bigger than a cdrom drive
so i figured the oldass hdd died, so i found another one, replaced it, and then it just sat there sucking
i checked everything- all ok
i tried to boot several more times, i actually got the choice of the boot type, cd rom or hdd
did nothing at all
from beginning to this point, an hour has passed-
my boss walkes in the office- i request immediate assistance from someone who knows what color the sky is
and so he stands back, looks at it in a few different ways (arms crossed, right hand propping chin, left hand propping chin)
and then says 'well, i think if you put in a new power supply' or something like that 'it would work'
'we dont have any power supplies, they all died and got replaced with the ones we have'
'oh, well we might have some old dtk's in the mdf room'
so blah blah blah blah, i get a computer from there, and then i take it to the computer lab where i got the s**** compaq with the huge hdd, and then i plug it all in, and-... whats this?!?! no network card?!?!>.....
so i go to find the comp lab 'teacher' who is really cute, btw, and she is with the special ed teacher in her room, and the special ed teacher'ss comp wont connect to the network, so i take a good look at it, figure out the port isnt patched to the idf- check the idf, her room isnt on that one, check the other idf, not there either... i dunno if there is another mdf for this school... so, i just say i cant handle it and walk out of there defeated, and i go back to the office, so i put up this coach's brand spankin new comp, and the phone starts ringin like crazy- im not pickin it up... not my office, so about 5 min later, my boss comes rushing in and tells me that the old comp needs to stay, so i hook the old cpu up to all the new stuff- its not connecting to the network, great... like i f&*##@% care... its time for me to get off anyways,
so since that comp lab teacher is cute and nice and all, i figure since she has the crappiest of all computers all in her lab, i figure i could swing by her campus and stick a nic in her new comp, so i get there, and her room is locked
i go to the front office to get a key, it is locked, i look for my mom (the asst principal) and she says her keys are on her desk
now player 1 needs to find blue key to unlock the office level
what luck? the blue key is in the secretaries' hand, so i use the blue ket to get in the office, get my mom's keys, blah blah
im in the comp lab, i momentarily pause for thought- [should i switch her crappy teacher comp for this semi decent old (new to her) comp?] 'bah... i wanna go home [hmm... im right, i dont want to have to reinstall her printers and get her mail set up again... ]
so the nic is in- i install the drivers, needs win 98se cd- puts cd in tray

cancel... screw that stuff
so i have to reboot now, i do so
IT WORKS!!! yay!
i express my releif by setting ie to fullscreen just as http://www.spam.com loads and the door closes
i get home, i eat a big bowl of chocolate pudding, realize that part was fictional and then eat one of the 'oh crap, i spent too much on computer stuff' cans of reserve beans (yum) and i choke that down- my ex roommate gets online and needs my addr so that he can mail me my portion of whats left of our deposit from the apt
$100 woo! im saved
now if only it arrives very very soon, i will be happy
an old friend just got back today for some leave from whatever branch of the military he went into
we are going to get a few old friends together to go do 'stuff' mostly mall ratting, since we are all impovershed for now
