sound help by crazysteve 2002-10-03 17:35:13
I'm losing it. completely losing it. I've figured out the problem, I've just been completely ignoring it thinking it was being taken care of.

Sound server informational message:

Error while initializing the sound driver:

device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)

The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

this little beauty comes up on boot up and when I poke around the sound server. I had been telling it not to show me this little pearl of wisdom thinking all would be fine. feh. now, I know /dev/dsp is listed, but I'm not sure what else to try. I've tried the emu10k1 driver that's in the kernel, I've tried the latest one off the web, modprobe comes up clean, and I've tried sndconfig (not even sure that's still current, but hey) and it says command not found. help? someone? please? pretty please?
