this thing is driving me absolutely nuts! by CrazySteve 2006-11-19 12:55:59
the sound worked last night, I know it did! I heard it playing!! no, I am not hallucinating. it worked last night, but today, it's being stubborn again. why me? anyone have experience "convincing" audigy cards to work again?

they are the Creative Open Source drivers. namely EMU10K1 version .20a (you can look at them here)
they compiled with out issue, installed normally. modprobe comes up clean. I compiled and installed the included tools, they went in with no problems. I added the following line to /ect/modules.conf as per the instructions
alias sound emu10k1
and it still doesn't work. the nvidia 3d drivers work fine and they popped in an alias line too (I tried sound before and after the nvidia drivers, no dice either way). in kde, the sound server doesn't play any sounds no matter what settings I go with. if I try and play something through xmms it tells me to check that I have have the correct plugin selected (there's only two and one is to rip), there's no programs blocking the sound card (if I can't get sound to play, why on earth would I leave something blocking it?), and make sure the sound card is configured properly (it should be). does this sound like a driver problem, a kde problem, or is this just the cosmos playing another joke on me for the bennifit of some higher being's (amazingly low-brow) sense of humor?

kernel 2.4.19
kde 3.0
xfree version 4.2.1
driver version EMU10K1-v0.20a
