I could understand if disparaging remarks regarding someone's ethnicity, religous views, sex and sexuality were made. However, that was far from the case. The kind of imformation that I had become privy to and kept to myself, was the kind of imformation that Management uses when they are considering moving someone up or laterally within an organization.
That kind of information is not confidential. Confidential information would be like sharing the medical reasons why employee X or Y wasn't going to be in the office for a few days. Another form of that would be sharing Employee X or Y's personal laundry that was discussed with management. Sharing information that everyone already sees is far from confidential.
Ask your co-workers what they think of you. Ask them what they think of your treatment of clients. Get together with you manager and see what you can do to enhance their opinion of you. This is your choice, if you don't work with management, they will work against you.
Anyway, I am no longer working with that corporation. I had a much better offer and now manage the IT department for another corporation. They were quite unhappy with my choice to leave, they through a nice going away party for me, told me that if I ever needed a job to give them a call and they would gladly accept me back. They also apologized for not being able to make a decent counter-offer that would have kept me with them.
To reiterate why that information was shared with me. My manager was grooming me for a management position and discussed that information with me to show me how he handled those issues, how I should handle those issues and also confirm that I was the kind of person that should be moved into management.
Take my advice, read that book and employ it's teachings in your daily life. It might take years at the company where you are at, but you will begin to garner the respect that you feel you deserve and may end up being privy to the information and knowledge that I was privy to. You may one day end up leading teams instead of sitting at a help desk complaining about how your deserve a medal.
As for my statement being arrogant. The thing about people is that they all feel that they are unique. Unfortunately, that's just not the case. Everywhere you go, everywhere you work there are people just like you and just like me and just like everyone else you work with. Think about the people you work with right now, then think about the people you worked with over the course of your life. Think about when you first started working at the job you have now.
How many people did you meet that reminded you of other people that you knew? How many of those people turned out to be almost exactly like those previous people?
Based upon my previous experiences, what you wrote reminds me of many people that I have had the experience of working with. While each had a few differences, like level of education, hobbies and other interests. Their attitudes and many behaviors were rather shockingly identical.
Most all of them had the same kind of issues that you have. They found themselves written up "For no reason" and were told that it was a "known issue" even though their last write-up was years previusly. After the fact, they talked EXACTLY how you wrote your rant. They even used the SAME words!
I must apologize if what I wrote looked arrogant. I should have taken some more time to better explain why I came to such conclusions. |
