Genetics and blonds by perldude2002-10-03 05:59:14

I think it's an anisomal<sp> recessive genetic trait. Meaning you can "carry" the gene for it and have it skip a generation and turn up when someone else also posesses the gene. So theoretically though its more likely for parents that are dark haired/dark eyed to have like children(as dominant genetics). If they both carry the blonde(or light eye colour gene) they could have a child with some form of blond hair/light eyes. Though its more commonly seen in famlies that have alot of whatever trait. Sort of how if you are part black for example it might not show then down the road a child is born looking definitly black.(my neice got warned of such because when her daughter was born she looked white. However her skin tone darkened later. But she was told something like this could happen down the line and to not be suprised).

What is a weird stat though is on redhair. Consider our small percentage of the population. Now add in that redhair genetics if I remember right are as dominant as brunettes and black haired people.(makes you wonder if maybe us redheads choose to have less kids or we have kids with red/auburn streaked black/blond hair)

/me if you want to think of something really odd my exhusband once commented on seeing a chinese albino. I think albino's are more common amoungst whites... however I did see a african american once who was an albino on tv... Oh and my son is dirty blond and 1/2 chinese.(though he was born pale strawberry blond with brown/golden eyes) His eyes also go between brown/gold now and dark hazel(green/brown).
