here's my list of the reasons i could think of, in no particular order: 1. to simplify life 2. to survive (i.e. to get paid) 3. to boost ones ego 4. to leave a legacy (see #3) 5. to challenge ones abilities and/or accepted ideas/concepts/laws etc. (related to #3 and #4) 6. because he/she can (aka "the captain kirk reason") 7. because one has been inspired, perhaps by, but not limited to, a spiritual power(e.g. God or the muses of greek myth)
