and mandrake should handle setting up your net connect just fine. When it gets to network it will ask you what you want to do. Select dhcp.(later you might notice if you read your system logs it might list it at bootpc because they are lose port wise or something so just ignore that)... Anyways after that it will ask you if you need a hostname to connect. For some ip's they give you a number or something mine used to be cr*-b because I'm using the second ip here(I have a cable modem and it goes into a hub and then my roommates computer and mine join to the hub so he uses one ip and I use another... long story as to why we do this). If you don't need a hostname leave it blank or stick in whatever you'd like your computer to be named.(the localhost thing is what it replaces I believe... so when your in console which is linux's ver of dos you will see "[<your username>@<what you called your machine for cable access> /<directory your in>] $" as your prompt later. :)

Anyways setting it dhcp and giving it some form of hostname(that your isp requires but if it doesn't put whatever or leave it blank) and it should connect just fine. It should also auto find your ethernet card. :)
