  Lindows isn't real? by DireEyez2002-09-29 00:47:14
Is it really worth it though? by Arienadean 2002-09-29 01:02:26
I looked at the lindows site once curious. I found what they said on the list that I saw that it would run... well it wasn't much diffrent than a regular linux box running wine. Only the other nix's had been around longer and there was more than one varient of wine kicking about. I've already got word 97 and excel viewer on my linux, as well as adobe, windows media player, quick time, and a variety of other things. And other programs that can do what several windows ones do or save in windows formats. What they offered on the lindows site seemed mainly stuff that alot of *nix versions have with a few windows progs(that some of which as mentioned we can run anyways from other versions of nix)

To me it seems for the most part... lindows is a good marketing angle but not really that far from other *nix's. ie lindows tried to be more public, hyped the functionality of wine, the free stuff/open source of *nix, and tried to grab those they felt didn't want to pay alot for software in the long run but were used to windows.(and hmm did they slap a windows theme on KDE to give it that look alike to win?)<shrug>

I've not tried it though so maybe I'm being harsh... But when I heard about it I thought it offered more program wise than what I saw when I looked.
