For the mouse (at least my logitech cordless optical) they say the range can be about 6ft, but it's more like 1ft (2 if i'm lucky), and the remote device is called the Remote Wonder, it comes with some of the vid cards (not entirely sure if it's available seperately, might wanna check ebay if someone's intersted) it's a usb device (or at least the one that came with my 8500DV is) and is a RF remote, not IR. (RF=radio frequency, the remote doens't need line of sight)
