Pretty much. They're both so charmingly bland and earnest. It's like Andy Hardy and Radar O'Reilly having an arm wrestling contest. They're tarred with that Midwest goody-goody brush. Except for Cincinnati, Ohio doesn't have a real urban center. Iowa sure doesn't either. It might THINK it does, but it doesn't. That's how Indiana escapes terminal blandness: it's spawned so many freaks and weirdos. Michigan has Detroit to give it props. Illinois has Chicago. We've got a meteorologist down here who's from Ohio. He's been here since the late '70s or early '80s and he STILL has the funny accent. Hilarious. Does that help? You really have to GO there (both places) to fully grasp what I'm saying. It's a pervasive cultural thing. Sorta like "Twin Peaks" without any dark underside.
