I hate XP. by bellator2002-08-28 00:45:54
XP problems by slacktime 2002-08-28 07:58:57
I know I'm having trouble with my XP. I have a 1.3 AMD Athlon on a Gigabyte Mobo with 256 Meg RAM, an Aopen GeForce2 AGP video card in it. Running XP, and using the newest drivers available from Aopen. (I've also tried the Nvidia drivers from their site.) Still the machine crashes every time I open certain games unless they are the first program opened after reboot.

The error that displays on reboot is that the video driver went into an infinite loop.

I've played with reducing the video acceleration, I've increased virtual memory, I've tried just about everything I can think of. Ultimately I think that it's just XP, doesn't happen in Win98se.

The games it crashes on are...

Dungeon Seige
Age of Empires II; Age of Kings (with Conquerors expansion)
Warcraft III
Beyond Atlantis (an older game that crashes it)

If anyone can think of a reason and fix for this behavior I will gladly try it.

IIRC, you can't touch DirectX on XP by YakkoWarner2002-08-28 09:06:58
