XFree has no screen to display the content that fits to your hardware. The screens, monitors etc. are defined in the file /etc/X11/XF86config see man XF86config or use the config-utilities. OK - you have to to this by hand, SUSE makes this at install time, but you do not need everytime a GUI (just think of a dump web-server).
